Promoting A Song (1)

Promotion is a difficult issue for independent songwriters without the backing of a publishing house, record label or other organisation. (This is my situation.)

Some of you will be young enough - and proficient enough - to make good use of social media - and this is almost certainly the best place to start.

Distrokid - who handle the distribution of my songs to the streaming platforms - help by creating ‘promotional cards - for each song/release. These are good for using on Instagram, Snapchat and Tik Tok. See below for an example.

I also produce a ‘promotional reel’ - a 30-40 second clip of the song with still images of the singer overlaid on top.

Both a card and a reel can point readers/viewers to your presence on Spotify, Apple Music, etc.

The reel can also be used on a YouTube channel.
